Why Should You Choose Natural Cleaning Products?
Many
of us were raised with cleaning products that contain innumerable amounts of toxins. Growing up, questions regarding the toxicity
and the hazards of chemicals within the environment were altogether overlooked. Today, however, evidence shows that what we
put in our home - and what we use to clean our home - is just as important as what we put inside our body. In fact, the products
that we use within our homes enter into our bodies via the air we breathe, through our skin, and through the water we drink.
17,000: the number of petrochemicals available for home use, only 30 percent of which have been tested
for exposure to human health and the environment.
63: the number of synthetic chemical products
found in the average American home, translating to roughly 10 gallons of harmful chemicals.
100:
the number of times higher that indoor air pollution levels can be above outdoor air pollution levels, according to US EPA
estimates.
275: the number of active ingredients in antimicrobials that the EPA classifies as
pesticides because they are designed to kill microbes
5 Billion: the number of pounds of chemicals
that the institutional cleaning industry uses each year.
23: the average gallons of chemicals
(that's 87 liters) that a janitor uses each year, 25 percent of which are hazardous.
5 million:
the number of household product poisonings reported, most of them involving children.
With all these chemicals,
it's no wonder that the EPA found the air quality in our homes to be 5 times to 10 times more toxic than the air outside,
and typically contaminated by anywhere from 20 to 150 different pollutants. Much of this pollution comes from petrochemical
cleaners.
Natural cleaning products are substances used to clean, deodorize, and/or disinfect which have natural
substances as their active ingredients. In some cases, natural cleaning products may be less damaging to the environment and
safer for humans and pets than conventional cleaning products.
